Welcome

Welcome to Muirkirk Parish Church

The congregation of the Church of Scotland here in Muirkirk extend a warm welcome to all, just as our Lord instructed us. We hope you will find what you’re looking for as you navigate our website, but in this modern era where so much is done online, we don’t overlook the importance of direct contact. So if you prefer, please give us a call or arrange to meet with us in person. After all, some of the best times are spent sharing a cuppa and a blether with friends, old and new.

Our services in Muirkirk are usually held at noon on Sunday. The church is situated on Kirk Green, at the eastern end of the village just off the A70. For SatNavs you’ll need KA18 3RT. There is plenty of parking close by, wheelchair access is available to the rear of the church and if you need to borrow a wheelchair you only need to ask. We also have a loop system to help you hear God’s word loud and clear.

Muirkirk’s history goes back to 1631, when the original ‘kirk on the muir’ was built. We have a rich history of Covenanters, poetry, mining and iron works, with some ‘world firsts’ too!

We are linked with Trinity Church in Old Cumnock, and usually have joint services during July and August; one week the service is held in Muirkirk, and the next it is held in Cumnock. Our two parishes work well together, sharing worship, facilities, ideas and responsibilities, as well as extending opportunities to make friends and help one another.

East Ayrshire has much to offer, from wooded valleys to rolling hills, riverside walks, picturesque villages and delightful tearooms. For the more athletic, a visit to Muirkirk isn’t complete until you’ve scaled Cairn Table (593m / 1946ft) from where, on a clear day, you can see Goat Fell on the Isle of Arran, and even Ben Lomond, the most southerly of Scotland’s Munros. Or maybe you prefer to play a round of golf, a game of bowls, going fishing or trying your skills at motorsport? Muirkirk can offer all these and many more activities. From learning craft skills to photography, dancing or computer skills to cookery and home baking, there’s plenty to keep you occupied come rain or shine.

Surrounded by the majesty of creation, Muirkirk enjoys some enviable views, but the best view of all is when a stranger stops to pass the time of day. Here, you can be sure of a hearty welcome, and you’ll no be a stranger fur lang!
